With the mess that the USPS is going thru right now, I'm not sure I would trust this to make it to its destination but what a great souvenir.  I love the Big D logo curved on the front and in its traditional form on the back (mailing side).
There is no registered trademark on the logo and so I am assuming this piece is from the early '70's.  It still has the original price tag on the bottom of $1.50. (less than a nice postcard today)

Complete your back to school supply shopping list with these early WDW erasers.  Although it looks like a child drew the logo, the sketches are great!  My collection is missing just one of the lands.  Can you tell which one is missing in action?  It was probably used to erase a young child's doodle on their notebook... "I wish I was back at Disney."

Donald Duck Bookends

Who doesn't love sturdy, easy-to-assemble book ends....especially if they feature Donald Duck?  These hard plastic book ends measure 5" wide at the base and about 6" tall.  They were made by Al Nyman & Son, Inc. in 1974.  Alco products tended to be children's desk supplies like super hero pencil sharpeners or erasers.  I have seen a few Disney related products from Alco but this and the desk set are the only Walt Disney World labeled items in my collection.

Can you believe it is "Back to School" shopping time?  Here is a perfect gift for your child or your own 'work-from-home' office.  The set contains a Mickey Mouse pencil well, Mickey & Minnie memo paper holder, Donald & Pluto letter rack and the 'oh so cool' Goofy stapler.  Check out the Donald Duck bookends also from Alco to round out your desk set.

The Magic Kingdom

In 1971, GAF developed the Talking View-master.  And as an official sponsor of WDW, it only made sense that they would create these Magic Kingdom reels with ''an exciting new combination of 3-D sight 'n sound."

The reels highlight all of the lands of the Magic Kingdom with the exception of Tomorrowland.  They also come with a booklet that contains a transcript of the narration.  More on that here.

This Whitman game came out the year Walt Disney World opened.  It uses the early logo that featured the Florida flag so that people would not confuse WDW with its older sister park in California.

The punch-out and play game came with a 30'x30' play mat map of the Magic Kingdom & 6 crayons.  The original owners only colored the two Main Street, USA buildings.  

Six characters and two children cut outs are still with my edition of the game along with the Swiss Family Tree House and parts of Cinderella Castle.  Based on the box cover, there may have been a cut out train and steam boat as well.

Most of the lands are represented by a 'weenie' punch-out or attraction to color: Grand Prix Raceway, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Hall of Presidents, and the Sunshine Pavilion.

A recent flea-market find was this unused bowling style bag.  The owner was away from his stand but his daughter let me have it for $5.00.  Deal!  I didn't tell her that in 1974 it retailed for $4.00.

Cards, Anyone?

Playing Cards

Anyone want to play cards?  This deck features the original artist rendering of Cinderella Castle and the curved logo with the separated Big D/Globe Head.  This is similar to items like these early plates.  The cards are a standard bridge size (2.25 x 3.5).  The faces are not unique except for the two Jokers and the Ace of Spades which have the full logo.

It's back to school time, at least here in the US.  Do you have all of your WDW school supplies?  Here are 3 rubber erasers featuring individual lands of the Magic Kingdom.  They measure 1 1/2" X 2" and are about 1/4" thick.  The printers in Japan need to go back to school apparently with typos like ADVENT_URELAND and FRONTIERLANDOD.

Donald Dough

Donald Dough!  Produced in 1972 by Chemtoy (the 1st company to sell bubble solution), the kit was most likely sold in stores to promote the newly opened resort in central Florida.

The 11" x 8 1/2" box contained a plastic mat, 3 containers of modeling dough and 4 molds, one of which would be Donald.  The others in my box are Pinocchio, Pluto & Mickey.

 
The logo on the front uses the rare multi-color filler Globe Head.  In addition, a unique castle design, similar to one on an Alco desk set, sits at the end of the logo.
