It's All In a Day's Work

Eyes and Ears, Vol. 9, No. 11
March 16, 1979
In light of the sad news this week about the large number of Cast Member layoffs due to the corona virus pandemic, I thought I would share this 'Eyes and Ears' from March 16, 1979, with the ironic headline, "It's All In a Day's Work."  This 8 page, 8.5x11, newsletter was "prepared by and for the cast of Walt Disney World."

The cover article describes the Character Department and how a cast member may become a Pageant Host/Hostess, portraying a Disney Character.  Inside the newsletter are a variety of cast related stories and information, from benefits information to classified ads.

Two articles refer to St. Patrick's Day activities.  "Mardi Gras a Success...St. Pat's Day Next!" describes the menu at the Fantasyland Cafeteria and another article encourages spectators to watch the "3rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Road Race."  And don't miss the results of the backgammon tournament on page 7.

What a Welcome to Walt Disney World

Welcome to Walt Disney World postcard
01110238
It has been awhile since I have shared a postcard.  So let's pick up the series where we left off.  Postcard 01110238 "Welcome to Walt Disney World" is quite the welcome, indeed.  This infamous photo is the opening day cast photo that was used as the cover of the October 15, 1971 edition of LIFE magazine.  Walt Disney World continued this tradition of cast photos such as this 2nd Anniversary photo in front of Cinderella Castle and this 3rd Anniversary photo in front of the newest attraction, Space Mountain.
The postcard was printed with both the original logo in black and the Florida Flag logo in brown.

3rd Anniversary

Walt Disney World 3rd Anniversary photo
October 1, 1974
3 years ago I began sharing my Walt Disney World collection here.  What better way to celebrate than by doing it in Disney Style.  For their early anniversaries, WDW recreated their opening day cast member photo.  Up until this point that was done in front of Cinderella Castle.  But with the pending opening of Space Mountain in early 1975, the new attraction was used as the backdrop for the 3rd Anniversary photo.
These photos were given to cast members.  This one belonged to Tom Henry who worked in the Planning Department at the time.  You can read more about his work and his time at WDW on his company webpage.
Thank you for celebrating with me for the past 3 years.  I look forward to many more.

2nd Anniversary

Walt Disney World Second Anniversary Photo
October 1, 1973
This week marked the 2nd anniversary of my blog!  I am very thankful to have this outlet to share my collection.  To celebrate, I thought it appropriate that I show one of my favorite pieces.  This 5X7 photo, marking WDW's second birthday, is reminiscent of the infamous opening day photo.  It was given to Cast Members in a tan paper folder/frame which features the original Big D/Globe Head logo on the cover.

St. Patty's Day - Cast Member Style

Eyes and Ears, Vol. 9, No. 11
March 16, 1979
Happy St. Patrick's Day....WDW cast member style.  I didn't think I had anything from my collection for St. Patrick's Day but I found this 'Eyes and Ears' from March 16, 1979.  This 8 page, 8.5x11, newsletter was "prepared by and for the cast of Walt Disney World."

The cover article describes the Character Department and how a cast member may become a Pageant Host/Hostess, portraying a Disney Character.  Inside the newsletter are a variety of cast related stories and information, from benefits information to classified ads.
