In the Preview Edition: Walt Disney World "The Vacation Kingdom of the World", each land was represented by their own unique icon.  These icons also appeared at the bottom of the early DP Postcard series.  If you have seen these images appear on other items, please share!  I would love to see these logos make a return to the Magic Kingdom.

Complete your back to school supply shopping list with these early WDW erasers.  Although it looks like a child drew the logo, the sketches are great!  My collection is missing just one of the lands.  Can you tell which one is missing in action?  It was probably used to erase a young child's doodle on their notebook... "I wish I was back at Disney."

Here is the apparel section of the gift catalog from 1976, pages 2-5.  I especially like the 'Mickey & Minnie Love Is T-shirt' selling for $2.25.  Unfortunately they only come in children's sizes.  But it is going on my must-have list.

Item 3A features an image that can also be found on a postcard.  3B has a cartoon drawing of Mickey & Goofy flying over a photo of Tomorrowland.  3J uses the very bland 'Cinderella Castle' logo. The adult sweatshirt sold for $7.

'The Walt Disney World Collegiate Collection' on page 5 doesn't have the WDW logo but they do have some groovy 70's images of Mickey playing baseball, Goofy playing football & basketball, and Donald playing golf while one of the nephews sprays him with a hose.

Here is the remainder of my early Walt Disney World eraser set that I began sharing last week.  These two highlight Main Street, USA and Tomorrowland.  My collection is missing just one of the lands.  Can you tell which one is missing in action?  It was probably used to erase a young child's doodle on their notebook... "I wish I was back at Disney."

If you were to assign a Coke product to Tomorrowland, what would it be?  I think Diet Coke makes sense.  Coca-cola certainly thought so in 1986 when they helped celebrate WDW's 15th Anniversary.  It is certainly better than their choice for Adventureland. 

Coloring Long Lost Attractions

We wrap up our tour through the lands of the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World: a coloring book,  with Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.  There are 10 pages dedicated to Fantasyland and 5 for Tomorrowland.  Fantasyland has seen significant changes in just the past few years but these pages remind us of what was lost even before this recent transformation: Mr Toad's Wild Ride (1998), Skyway (1999) & 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1994).

The few Tomorrowland images feature some icon attractions like Space Mountain & Tomorrowland Speedway.  But I had to share this fun image of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover or the WEDWay PeopleMover as it would have been called in 1983 and Donald and company riding Astro Orbiter or should I say Star Jets.

Coloring the Lands

For the past few weeks I have been sharing WDW items that highligted or omitted 'Lands' of the Magic Kingdom.  This 1983 coloring book from Golden Books features all six of the lands with several of our favorite Disney characters enjoying attractions throughout the Magic Kingdom. 
The title page has Mickey Mouse juggling hats from the six....no wait....5 of the 6, lands.  Can you figure out which one isn't represented by a hat?
There are, coincidentally, 71 pictures in the coloring book.  I will be sharing some from each land over the next couple of weeks.

Intentional Omission

Is this another example of some missing 'Lands?'  In this case, the 'non-lands' of Main Street, USA and Liberty Square are not included on this small child's bucket hat.  Of course, this could be due to the fact that the hat was made for both WDW and Disneyland and you won't find Liberty Square in California.

Missing Lands: Found

Last week I shared with you the coaster set that excluded Frontierland and Tomorrowland.  I am happy to report that they have been found on the back of this 1 1/2 inch pewter keychain.  The front has the curved logo with the Big D pulled out, similar to some of the early plate designs.  

Drink Service

As the holiday season approaches, it is time to pull out this drink serving tray.  It measures approximately 10 1/2 inches in diameter.  The six recessed glass holes are about 2 1/2 inches in diameter and about .25 inch deep.

If this tray looks familiar to you, it is because I previously posted the original version of this tray.  The early version was most likely pre-opening of WDW because the images were all drawings. 

All of the "lands' are still represented and use the same subjects, with the exception of Tomorrowland.  The entrance image was replaced by 'Star Jets' and 'Space Mountain."  I'm sure glad they kept the 'Jungle Cruise' vultures, though.

Guided Without GAF

Your Complete Guide to Walt Disney World is brought to you by.....Wait a minute.  What happened to GAF?  Just last year, 1977 that is, GAF, the View-master and camera people were the sponsor of these guides.

The 29 page guide is 5 1/2"x8".  The inside cover has a Transportation Schedule and a map.  Check out the key that has icons for Motor Coaches, Monorails, etc.  But try to find them on the map?  And how far is anyone going to get on the Empress Lilly?

The first few pages have 'Helpful Information' and details for '...our Blind Guests' and 'guests in wheelchairs.'  Interesting to note: "Guests in wheelchairs may await their parties inside attractions while party members go through waiting lines."

Pages 5-13 highlight each of the Magic Kingdom lands.  Each attraction is represented with a great sketch, has a short description and the ticket required.  The middle of the guide contains two great maps, the first one, Magic Kingdom, is below.  The second half will appear next week.
