Happy Birthday from Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter Magazine, Number 52
Happy 42nd Birthday, Walt Disney World!  1971 was a good year.  Back in 1992, Scholastic celebrated WDW's birthday in their toddler magazine, Peanut Butter.  Do you remember Hot Dog, Dynamite or Bananas?  Well, Peanut Butter was for the 4 - 7 year olds.  I am guessing they were hoping that their young readers would not question why they were celebrating WDW's birthday in January.
You see, this edition came out in the early part of 1992.  The magazine only mentions WDW on the cover, inside and out, where you can punch out a 'Disney Wall Hanging.'  The rest of the 24 pages are filled with Valentine's Day games and cards to tear out.  There is no other mention of WDW or it's October birthday.  Regardless, thanks to Scholastic and Peanut Butter for sharing the love.

Japanese Small Plate

Walt Disney World decorative plate
This 4 inch plate won't hold much food but I am sure it made a nice souvenir.  The plate is very similar to a pink one that I shared last year but it is missing the fireworks.  Both have a colorful version of the original castle icon and use a curved 'flat' logo with the Big D/Globe Head removed.  This version seemed to be most commonly used on round objects.  The plate was made in Japan for Walt Disney Productions and uses a Double D logo symbolizing both Disneyland and Disney World.  I have not seen this logo on many items but will continue to look for more.

End of a Classic

National Team Championship Golf Classic matchbook
Since 1971, Walt Disney World has been a stop on the PGA Tour.  That was until this year.  So in honor of the loss, here is a matchbook from The National Team Championship Golf Classic.  The tournament went by many names in its 41 year run.  Most recently, The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.  The Team Championship format was used from 1974 - 1981, giving us an approximate age for this piece of phillumeny.

Nutra-Sweet Daisy

Diet Minute Maid can, Daisy Duck, 1986
Since Donald was on the Minute Maid can, it only makes sense that his sweet girlfriend, Daisy, would be featured on the Diet Minute Maid can in this series from Coca-cola celebrating Walt Disney World's 15th Anniversary in 1986.

The End of the World Magazine

World Magazine, 1977, back cover

The end of the World Magazine (see what I did there) from 1977 is filled with pictures and descriptions of new or upcoming or now extinct attractions at Walt Disney World.  Starting with "River Country: The Ol'Swimmin' Hole" on page 19 that was " excitingly new country....inside Fort Wilderness" but closed in 2001.  Page 24 introduces attractions "Just Around The Corner" including The Empress Lilly, The Main Street Electrical Parade and The Village Pavilion at the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village, "...shaped as three adjoining hexagons, the new building will have the same weathered brick and cedar shingle exterior (with some added Victorian touches) as the rest of The Village."

In addition to these eminent new attractions, page 27 describes "World Showcase" where 10 to 30 nations may occupy the pavilions in...two facing semi-circular buildings."  Hmmm..... "Construction is scheduled to begin by late 1977."
Of course the Walt Disney World collector in me loves page 29 which highlights the various divisions that produce Disney merchandise.
