Splash Mountain Math

Splash Mountain Thermo-serv mug
What do you get when add some new math about a Walt Disney World ride featuring the story of a rabbit trying to escape a fox and a bear with an insulated plastic mug?  This Splash Mountain Thermo-serv mug.  This clever souvenir is 4 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" wide at the base and holds about 1/10 of the amount of water you "might get wet" with on the ride.

What a Welcome to Walt Disney World

Welcome to Walt Disney World postcard
01110238
It has been awhile since I have shared a postcard.  So let's pick up the series where we left off.  Postcard 01110238 "Welcome to Walt Disney World" is quite the welcome, indeed.  This infamous photo is the opening day cast photo that was used as the cover of the October 15, 1971 edition of LIFE magazine.  Walt Disney World continued this tradition of cast photos such as this 2nd Anniversary photo in front of Cinderella Castle and this 3rd Anniversary photo in front of the newest attraction, Space Mountain.
The postcard was printed with both the original logo in black and the Florida Flag logo in brown.

Tiny Flag

pennant
Wave your banner high!  Really high!  This tiny pennant would need to be held really high to be seen in a crowd at Walt Disney World.  It measures 4" tall and 8 1/2" in length.  Based on the raised blue felt on the left, I assume it was once on a stick.  And thanks to the original owners date on the back, we can assume it is from 1974.  The smiling Mickey Mouse was very common on the early souvenirs like this key chain and change purse.

Mouseketeer's Train Ride

The Mouseketeer's Train Ride
Golden Press, 1977

Modeled after the original 1950's series, The New Mickey Mouse Club premiered in 1977.  I'm sure as a way to promote the new Club and the relatively new resort in Florida, this Golden Book was published.  I am assuming this was a popular book based on the fact that I have another copy that was a 5th printing in 1979.
The obvious premise of the book, the 12 Mouseketeers take a train to WDW, is made more captivating by a 'special someone who is also on board.'  Can you guess who it might be?  Well you will have to get a copy of this page turner to find out.  Also, keep a look out for a young Lisa Welchel of Facts of Life fame on the train.

A Cup of Celebration

15 Years insulated mug
1986
In 1986, Walt Disney World celebrated their 15th anniversary in a big way.  This week I am celebrating the scheduling of our latest trip.  (I was one of the few this week that did get thru to schedule a free dining trip)
The "15 years" logo with Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth was used on a variety of give-aways and souvenirs like this 4" insulated coffee cup style mug.  The Mickey and confetti design can also be seen on this $9 t-shirt.
