Here Comes the Choo Choo

Child's Plastic Divided Plate
Kibouki, Genin Trudeau
Continuing this week with our Children's Day theme, here is a colorful divided plate for a child.  It has a curved standard Big D/Globe Head Walt Disney World logo with the registered trademark symbol at the bottom of the largest section of the plate.  It was produced by Genin Trudeau of Montreal under the name Kibouki.  I have not seen any other items from this company made for WDW but have seen other disney related items like children's tumblers.

Happy Children's Day To My Child

Donald Duck Pin Back Button
Since today is Children's Day (depending on who's calendar you read), my daughter has selected this week's post.  She likes the color blue in the background.  And that is a good enough reason for me to post anything Donald.  This 3" pin back button, which were much more popular before the trading pins of today, features a crisp Big D/Globe Head logo and a lovely blue background :)

Watch Wearing Water-skiing Dogs

Fun on Bay Lake postcard
01110213
Memorial Day in the USA is the unofficial start to summer.  And what better way to celebrate than with Fun on Bay Lake!  This Walt Disney World postcard  is the next in the 0111 series of early cards.  I'm sure it is amazing to see these two dogs (wait, is Goofy really a dog) water-skiing. But I was even more amazed to see that Pluto wears a wrist-watch while doing so.

Turn and Learn About the Walt Disney World That Never Was

Mickey Mouse and his Friends in Walt Disney World
Ideal Toy Corp., 1971

This unique pre-school 'Turn and Learn Storybook' was produced by the Ideal Toy Corp. in 1971.  It measures 11.5" x 9.5" when closed. The wheels turn and create images that correspond to the story when the numbers are lined up in the center picture frame.

The story follows Donald and his nephews thru WDW.  But Huey and his new balloon gets whisked up by a gust of wind.  Peter Pan, in order to find him, flys over "The Old Caribbean Village, The North African Market Place, Persia and Italy," locations that were planned but never completed.

Ideal clearly anticipated the completion of these planned resorts, although they were not expected in Phase One.  Based on this oversight and the early Bay Lake logo on the front, I assume this item was developed in early 1971 before WDW opened to the public.

Polynesian Luau

Polynesian Luau postcard
01110212
Inserted in the 0111 series of original chrome postcards from Walt Disney World were a few resort postcards from the Polynesian.  They followed the Main Street U.S.A. and Adventureland cards.  0111211 showed the pool at the Polynesian Village and this one features the Polynesian Luau, with "authentic Tahitian dancers and musicians" that "add the right touch to an enchanting evening of exotic food and South Sea Island fun."
