Big Albert Moves In

Big Albert Moves In
A Tell-A-Tale Book, Whitman, 1971
I bet you have always wondered how Big Al of 'The Country Bear Jamboree' fame, got his start at Walt Disney World.  Well wonder no more, thanks to this Whitman, A Tell-A-Tale Book from 1971.

The cover and title page utilize the Florida Flag Logo, especially important on this 'non-souvenir' book, as to distinguish itself for the reader from the familiar Disneyland in California

'Big Albert was a shaggy, baggy, wuffly, saggy country bear...'that paid no attention to the winter months until it was too late.  He was forced south to find warmer weather....Stay tuned for more of his story.

Seaboard Victorian?

Main Street, U.S.A. Postcard
0110201 dp 79908-c
This opening day series postcard could be considered unique for a variety of reasons: the relatively empty street, the awkward clumping of guests or odd cropping (what is happening in the right-hand corner?)  But I find the description on the back to be intriguing.  We hear about how Walt's childhood home of Marceline, MO is the inspiration for Main Street, U.S.A.  So I am having trouble making the connection to the "Seaboard Victorian" architecture.  Thoughts?

More Phillumeny

Contemporary Resort Matchbook
Here is another matchbook cover from the early days of Walt Disney World.  We know it is from the early 1970's because it features the Florida Flag logo used during the opening of WDW to differentiate it from its West Coast big sister, Disneyland.  It was also created prior to 1973 because the stricker is on the front.  Matchbooks created after 1973 were required to have the stricker on the back of the matchbook.

Phillumeny

Polynesian Village Matchbook Cover
Phillumeny: the hobby of collecting match related items.
Philluminist: one who participates in the act of phillumeny.
I guess I am now an official WDW Philluminist.  This early WDW matchbook from the Polynesian Village features the Florida Flag logo on the front cover.  Stay tuned for more phillumery from Walt Disney World!

Ready to Mail Puzzle

Ready to Mail Jigsaw Puzzle
Who would have thought you could mail a puzzle in a canister?  Here is a great WDW souvenir that shows the Big D logo curved on the front and in its traditional form on the back (mailing side).
There is no registered trademark on the logo and so I am assuming this piece is from the early '70's.  It still has the original price tag on the bottom of $1.50.
